Happy 4th of July!

This July 4th I am celebrating 11 years of being a citizen.  I am so grateful for the opportunity that this country has given me, while at the same time mourning that my country of birth (whose Independence day is July 5th) has fallen under the despair of socialism.  What made this country great is the equal opportunity afforded all people to live their lives as they choose, to create and grow, to learn and rise above the circumstances that they were born under.  What ruined Venezuela is punishing those who were deemed “too successful, too powerful and too rich” and therefore trying to force equality in outcome artificially through the power of the government.

I want to thank God for the United States of America.  We have been the most giving, generous country in the last 200 plus years.  We have opened our doors to those who are oppressed or looking for freedom.  We have helped give hope and be a model to those who only know despotism.  I thank God for our Judeo-Christian heritage that has led this country to treat others as they would want to be treated, and to take personal responsibility for one’s behavior.  And I ask God to help us keep our heritage and our freedom, and that other countries may also learn what we have learned.

Don’t give up on the American dream.  I, like many others, are still finding it possible.  But it takes individuals having responsibility, knowing their history, and living out their civic duty, to keep it.

God bless you all on this anniversary of Independence Day of the United States of America.
