Health Freedom is…Freedom

I delivered this speech at the Health Freedom Rally in Bridgeport West Virginia earlier this month:

America is the land of the free and the home of the brave.  West Virginia’s motto is Montana Semper Liberi – a mountaineer is always free.  Freedom applies to all aspects of our lives – including health freedom.  Truth be told, there is no such thing as health freedom, it’s simply freedom.  The freedom of the individual to have life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness.

However, as the old saying goes, freedom is never free.  The price is eternal vigilance.  Over the years we have tolerated the incremental erosion of the freedom that we hold dear.  We now find ourselves on the precipice.  We are at the point where we must take a stand.  If we lose dominion over our own bodies we are lost.

Our freedom is granted to us by our Creator who endowed us with the unalienable rights enshrined in our Constitution and the Declaration of Independence.  Among those rights are equal protection under the law.

The Fifth Amendment has an explicit requirement that the Federal Government not deprive individuals of “life, liberty, or property,” without due process.

The Fourteenth Amendment prohibits states from violating an individual’s rights of due process and equal protection. Equal protection limits the State and Federal government’s power to discriminate in their employment practices.  It says that you can’t treat employees, former employees, or job applicants unequally if they belong to a group, such as a race, religion or sex. Due process protection requires that employees have a fair procedural process before they are terminated if that termination is related to a liberty, such as the first amendment right to free speech, or a property interest.

Our bodies are our property.  They are not the property of the government.

So how did we come to this point…where there are those in government standing between each of us as individuals and our Creator?

We have let down our guard.  Enough is enough. We are here today as citizens of the United States and the great state of West Virginia to serve notice that enough is enough.  The tide is turning.  Let’s work together to take back our freedom.
